What Have I Missed?

From 2003-2008, I wasn't really paying much attention to what was going on in YA lit. Mostly because I was in college for a good chunk of that time. After I started blogging intensely in 2009-10, I realized that whenever I wanted to give book recommendations, I could only personally supply titles from before 2003 or after 2009. Now I know a lot of good books were being published in the interim! So I've created my own challenge, to read 12 books in 2011 that were published between 2003 and 2008.

My reading list was created through recommendations from friends and blog readers, as well as looking at lists of award winners for the years in question. My current list, in no particular order:

  • A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly (recommended by Bob, 2004 Printz honor, published in 2003)
  • How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff (recommended by Rachel, 2005 Printz winner, published in 2004)
  • A Curse Dark as Gold by Elizabeth Bunce (recommended by Rachel, published in 2008)
  • The First Part Last by Angela Johnson (recommended by Ari, 2004 Printz winner, published in 2003)
  • Chanda's Secrets by Allan Stratton (2005 Printz honor, published in 2004)
  • I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak (2006 Printz honor, published in the US in 2006)
  • Anahita's Woven Riddle by Meghan Nuttall Sayres (2007 BBYA top 10, published in 2006)
  • Bucking the Sarge by Christophe Paul Curtis (2005 BBYA top 10, published in 2004)
  • Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson (recommended by Megan, published in 2008)
I still have three titles to choose to add to the list, and am always open for more suggestions!
